Quartz Countertop Project in Folsom, CA

Project Backstory

This master bathroom renovation project focused on refreshing the shower and tub surround in an upstairs suite totaling 83 square feet. The homeowner, Lisa of Folsom, was seeking a modern update that would enhance her space’s visual appeal while simplifying long-term upkeep. Having already installed a Taj Mahal quartzite countertop, she wanted a complementary material that would preserve the serene, elegant tone of the room without introducing high maintenance demands.

Location: Folsom, CA

Project Materials

To meet those goals, Stokes Granite & Stone recommended 2CM HanStone Quartz in the “Matterhorn” shade. As an engineered stone, HanStone Quartz offers exceptional durability and nonporous performance—resisting stains, scratches, and daily wear. The “Matterhorn” hue was carefully chosen for its soft, neutral patterning that harmonizes beautifully with the natural veining of Taj Mahal quartzite. The end result delivered both function and design cohesion, creating a bright, contemporary master bath that balances strength and style.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about our quartz countertops here.

1. What makes quartz countertops different from natural stone?

Quartz is an engineered surface, made from roughly 90% ground natural quartz blended with resins and pigments. Unlike natural stones such as granite or quartzite, quartz is nonporous, meaning liquids and bacteria cannot penetrate its surface. This gives it a consistent color and pattern, easy maintenance, and strong resistance to stains or etching—all benefits homeowners appreciate for kitchens and bathrooms.

2. Are quartz countertops heat resistant?

Quartz is heat resistant but not heat proof. The natural quartz component can handle moderate temperatures; however, the resins and polymers used in the manufacturing process can discolor or burn if exposed to extreme heat. It’s always best to use trivets or hot pads when placing hot pots, pans, or styling tools directly on a quartz surface to preserve its finish and longevity.

3. Do quartz countertops need to be sealed?

No. Quartz countertops never need sealing because the resins that bind the stone particles make the material completely nonporous. This built-in protection keeps the surface resistant to staining, bacteria, and moisture—one of the main reasons quartz is so popular for busy kitchens and bathrooms.

What our Customers are Saying

We had our second project done with Stokes. Everything went smooth and installers did whole kitchen countertop and back splash done in a day and cleaned the space before leaving. The fabricator discount that Stokes gave us while buying the slabs helped us a lot to save money and to buy the slabs that we liked. Overall; I am happy working with them and I will reach out to them for any future project we may have.

Stokes just installed new quartz countertops in my kitchen, laundry room and half bathroom. What a transformation to my house! The installation crew did an outstanding job. They were careful, courteous, friendly, and it was fun to watch the pros at work. Mike did a perfect job making the templates. Ashley was delightful to work with on all the paperwork and scheduling. I couldn’t be happier with everyone at Stokes. I happily give the my highest recommendation and would call them first in the future!
